Important Technology Updates 11.23.16

There are a few technology updates and information which I would like to share with you which came directly from the EACS Technology Department.
The first update is in regards to Microsoft which updated Internet Explorer (the big blue e) in a way that doesn't play nicely with Canvas. Canvas's engineering team is actively looking into what they might be able to do to reconcile the issue on the Canvas side of things. In the meanwhile, we recommend that you use another Internet browser, such as Chrome or Firefox for anything related to Canvas.
The second update is regarding the use of the ipad when connecting to the internet at school and at home. We have recently put all student iPads on our Global Proxy due to the changes that Google, Yahoo and Bing have encountered. Because of this, all students need to sign into the Lightspeed Proxy (big blue rocket icon shown below) at least once to authenticate to the server. 
If the iPad stays at school, the IP address of the iPad will not change, therefore the student will not need to sign in again. If the iPad goes home and the IP address changes to the home network and then returns to school, those iPads will need to be authenticated every week. 
There is an icon that is pushed out that is named Lightspeed (big blue rocket icon shown below) and once the student selects this, a screen will popup asking the student to login (they will input their Student ID and their Computer Password) and then a screen will popup showing that the login was successful.
