1003a Grant

1003a Grant - Recipient

As many of you may recall, PHJHS applied for the 1003a Grant because we have been identified as a D/F status school with the state for our ISTEP results. In September 2017, we applied for a 1003a Grant and, on Dec. 13, 2017, we were informed by the state that were approved. These funds will be used to increase our direct support and amount of services for students over the next six months. Because of this, students will have the opportunity to attend after-school tutoring Mondays through Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. with transportation home after tutoring. We will continue to add students to the list for this important tutoring. If you feel that you would like to have your child participate in after-school tutoring, please contact the main office and ask to speak to Ms. Branigan (ext: 7386) or Mr. Venderley (ext: 7302), so that we can ensure that your child is getting the necessary support. As we continue the after school tutoring, we will also be looking at the data which indicates how the students are doing and if the additional support is making the level of improvement in student learning that we are hoping it will make. Areas of focus for this tutoring will include: small group instruction, teacher support in homework (math and reading), and computer programming time using both Math 180 and Read 180. Students will be monitored and our belief is that students will continue to make the growth necessary to see the improvements to help them prepare for ISTEP as well as the next school year of instruction.

In the spring, 7th and 8th grade students will be recommended to attend the Summer 2018 JumpStart Program which will be held at PHJH from June 4 - June 28 from 8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m..  We appreciate your partnership in helping to educate your child at PHJHS.
