Letter from the Principal of PHJH....

Principal Danielle Newman

October 12, 2018

Dear Parents,

Wow! How did we get to October already??

It is hard to believe that we are at the end of the first nine weeks for the 2018-19 School Year. Time certainly does go quickly when you are busy working in class learning every period.
Plus we have students getting involved in after-school activities, athletics, clubs, tutoring, and other special events.

Students are now into a routine and are settling into the junior high experience here at Paul Harding Junior High School. Students know where their classes are and most of the students probably know the fastest way to get from one class to the next without being tardy. The first nine weeks is approximately the time period that it takes students to learn what is expected in class from each one of their eight to nine teachers which they see daily.

Our students are prepared to RISE UP this year and are working to improve their NWEA scores from the Beginning of the Year to the Middle of the Year and finally to the End of the Year. Students will be tested three times over the course of the school year to see just how much they are learning in their Math and Language Arts classes. Please encourage your child to read every night and work on their iPads using Moby Max for all core subject areas. Our students are also in the middle of the second Academic Challenge for the school year. In order for the students to attend the Academic Incentive, the student must make 6 out of 8 challenges and all grades must be passing. Congratulations to those students who were able to attend the September Academic Challenge. The October Challenge is scheduled to end on Friday, Oct. 26 and the Incentive will be on Thursday, Nov. 1 during the lunchtime.

Parents, if you have not gotten access to the RDS system to check your child’s grades regularly, I would encourage you to do this now. Please contact the front office and ask for Mrs. McBride or Mrs. Roddy to help you in setting this up to help you know how your child is doing at school. Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences is another great opportunity for you to meet your child’s teachers and see what you can do to support your child at home.

P/T/S Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 25, from 4:15 – 7:15 PM in the GYM at PHJH! I hope to see you all here at PHJH for Parent Teacher Conferences.

Have a great Fall Break (October 15th)! If there is anything that we can do to help make your child’s experience at PHJH better, please let us know. We are here to help your child learn and grow every day!

Mrs. Newman

Project Tomorrow Speak Up Logo

Paul Harding Junior High Students, Parents & Staff...

This is a voluntary Speak Up Survey!

The Speak Up Survey is a national survey gathering information on the use of technology in schools and classrooms.

EACS is reaching out to students in grades 7-12, staff, parents, administrators, and stakeholders in our school and community. The survey will remain open until January 31, 2019.

The direct link is here: https://speakup.tomorrow.org/ChooseQuestionSet.aspx and students simply click on the "I am a Student" button and choose our school district, East Allen County Schools.

All other participants select from the drop-down menu:

1. schoool/district employee

2. parents

3. padres de familia en espanol

4. community members/business partner

Each group will have a slightly different survey, and each survey will take 15-20 minutes. Again, this is a voluntary survey.
