Letter from the Principal of PHJH....

Principal Danielle Newman

Dear PHJH Students, Staff and Families,

It is hard to believe how quickly this first half of our school year has gone. There are just a few days left before students will finish their finals and relax for Winter Break. The teachers and support staff have been very busy keeping students engaged in learning, improving their skills in both math and reading, and working in areas to help them be life-long learners.

One of our New Year’s Resolution for the PHJH students will be learning about their Grade Point Average (GPA) and what a GPA means as they earn their grade. Students will learn how to calculate their GPA as they complete assignments, quizzes, and activities for each of their classes and also be aware of how each grade impacts their GPA. All students will participate in a monthly Academic Challenge of their choice. Students will need to complete at least four (4) out of their seven (7) classroom Academic Challenges. More information and details will be shared with students during class instruction and grade level meetings when we return from Winter Break. All students will begin the second semester with a clean slate and a new opportunity to do their best in the classrooms.

Finally, I would like to encourage you to work with your child, making sure that students are using their iPad to communicate with teachers and also as an educational tool and resource to their books and programs for classroom use and learning. We will be planning three (3) parent meetings which will take place in January, February, and April These meetings will help you – our parents - know what you can do to help your child be prepared as we approach standardized testing, the selection of a high school within EACS (for our 8th grade students) and help to make a successful transition from middle school to high school, continuing to have a passion for literacy and learning. We look forward to seeing you in January at a PHJH parent meeting / event.

Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions, please contact me or any of my administration team for assistance. We appreciate working with you to serve your child and to encourage a love for learning.
